How to make Long Grain Brown Rice in your Instant Pot

What is Brown Rice?

Brown rice’s meaning in Chinese is “rough rice”. It’s unpolished whole grain rice – the bran, germ, and aleurone layer are not removed like the regular polished white rice we eat.

Brown rice is the same grain like white rice, but it’s more nutritious with more nutrients and high in fiber. Normally it takes almost an hour of simmering to make a pot of brown rice on stove top, but it’s super easy to cook Brown Rice in the Instant Pot in just 15 minutes.

Make sure to buy Long grain brown rice as short and medium grain takes longer to cook.

For every 1 cup of rice, we’re going to use 1 1/2 cups of water.

Turn the switch from “Vent” to “Seal”. If you don’t seal it, will never come to pressure, it won’t cook and it WILL BURN. Trust me, if done it!

Set the cooking time to 15 minutes, with a 10 minute after pressure release.

Press the “Pressure Cook” button and set it to 15 minutes, once it’s done, the screen will say “L 00:00” for Lapse time, and don’t take the top off until the screen reads L 00:10. That means it has depressured for 10 minutes.

The lapse time is really important for the rice as it’s the time that has streamed and absorbed all of the water, so allow it to do the 10 minute natural pressure release.

After that, take the lid off and you’re ready to eat.
